adjust, accommodate, adapt

这三者的共同意思是“使适合,使适应”。

accommodate用于使之相适应的两事物之间悬殊极大的事物,带有一方暂时必须屈从另一方的意味; adapt用于使之适应的两事物之间差别较小的事物,将某一方稍加改变便可适应于另一方,带有一定的灵活性和适应性; adjust则着重于结果,即达到尽可能的符合或和谐。

adjust, fit, match

这三个词都有“适应”“适合”的含义。其区别是：

fit是一般用语,意味很广,指适合条件、环境、目的、要求等,用于衣服、帽子等时,指它们的形状或大小适合身体; match多指“大小、色调、形状、性质等方面的搭配”; adjust指“(作些)调整使完全符合或适应”,一般与具体事物连用,有时也用反身代词作宾语。例如:

Try the new key and see if it fits.试试新配的钥匙,看看是否合适。

We should get some new curtains to match the carpet.我们应该买些新窗帘来配这条地毯。

She adjusted the lamp so that the light fell directly on her book.她把灯移动了一下,使灯光正好照在书上。

adapt，adjust，conform，accommodate，suit，fit

这些动词均有“使适合，适应”之意。

adapt指人或物在原有情况下作某些改变以适应新的环境或不同的条件，强调改变的目的和重要性。

adjust与adapt含义很接近，但adjust所改变的幅度要小一些，侧重过程，主要用于调整角度、高度、光点等。

conform多指与某模式或规则相符，也引申指改变习惯等以适应新的环境。

accommodate书面用词，指以外部条件标准改变自己或某事以求得适应，着重改变或调节的有利。

suit指适合要求，从而使人满意愉快。

fit含义广，指人或物适合或适应某一目的或用途。
